The day before she is to be sent to boarding school, a rebellious teenager named Billie steals a million-dollar horse from her father and rides off into the New Mexico desert to find the grave of her namesake, Billy the Kid. Along the way, she learns the truth about her past and how she and her father have never dealt with the greatest tragedy of their lives.
